Joe Giovanniello one of the principals at IBI Group ▪ Gruzen Samton along with Chris West one of the partners at Foster and Partners discussed the Yale University, School of Management project at the Center for Architecture - Committee on Architecture for Education on March 5, 2014. The title of the event was Transparency in living and learning together.
The event presented three recently designed academic buildings that, each in its own way, adheres to the notion of educational design that teaching is not confined to classrooms. Norman Foster said of the Yale building: "Interactions outside the formal teaching areas are as important as classroom-based learning. Learning is not only about the classroom - it is about the social spaces and the relationships that are formed."
These projects aspire to form communities within communities; villages within villages. The use of transparency, inside and out, reveals the different programs and activities and transform older, more traditional notions of educational buildings and campuses.
