As part of a $16 million bond referendum, IBI Group ▪ Gruzen Samton provided design services for the renovation of all schools in the Babylon Union Free School District. Work completed under this initiative involved three educational complexes and included both renovations and additions to these structures.
For the project team, this complicated initiative represented a simultaneous, district wide effort to design and construct multiple projects.
In addition to extensive building infrastructure and system upgrades, the project involved extensive internal renovations to accommodate curriculum and program changes. For example, the project team renovated the existing grade school’s entry lobby, library, and cafeteria, as well as the high school’s auditorium and media center.
This project has won American School & University Magazine, Bronze Citation, 2005; Long Island American Institute of Architect Award, 2005; and Learning by Design Magazine, Citation of Excellence Award, 2006.
