IBI Group ▪ Gruzen Samton designed the renovation of and addition for the 1968 Queens Borough Public Library Corona Branch. The new space adds 2,500 sf to the existing 5,100-sf building. It increases the public reading area for adults and children, and provides a child’s storytelling zone. The heart of this project, a sloped roof over the addition, allows new clearstory windows and a glass façade to let natural light illuminate the new main reading room and stacks.
The renovation includes new interior space configuration and finishes while upgrading public toilets and the exterior entrance for ADA compliance. It provides a new RFC automated book drop and new HVAC, electrical, telecom, and lighting systems.
