The Academic Village, located prominently near the main entrance to the Kingsborough Community College campus, represents the first phase of new development for this established 74-acre campus. Master planning by IBI Group ▪ Gruzen Samton was initiated in the mid-1990s, and the new Academic Village, which replaced existing row houses emanated from this work. The building is seamlessly integrated with neighboring buildings and is a visual and functional link between surrounding educational facilities. The new facility accommodates community programs as varied as continuing education for older adults, distance learning, day care, curriculum for teenagers, and administrative activities for the local community board.
This project won a Brooklyn Building Award, Design Award in the Higher Education Category, 2007 from the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce.
