This new brick and limestone building fits comfortably within the surrounding neighborhood composed of low-rise, one and two story residential buildings with red brick facades. The design reflects the dual mission of the facility and is both a civic structure and place for contemplative study. The subtle interior design incorporates a range of materials, including granite, bird's eye maple, brushed aluminum, and glass, resulting in a warm, inviting environment perfect for study and contemplation, as well as for learning and the exchange of ideas.
The library, one of two large spaces designated for study, has panoramic views of the neighborhood and the campus and provides a sense of connection with the surrounding neighborhood. At the top of the building, the fourth floor dining room and lounge has large windows and terraces which also provide vistas of Manhattan beyond.
