IBI Group – Gruzen Samton designed a renovation and new addition to expand the Corona Branch of the Queens Borough Public Library. The addition added 2,450 sf to the existing 5,050 sf building, originally built in 1968. The addition increased the public reading area for adults and children, and provides a child’s storytelling zone. The heart of this project is a sloped roof over the addition, allowing new clerestory windows to let natural light illuminate the main reading room. The renovation of the existing building included new interior finishes, upgrading two public toilets and the exterior entry for ADA compliance, a new HVAC system, and new electrical, telecom, and lighting for the library’s automated book drop.
