Freeport, New York
IBI Group Gruzen Samton designed multiple additions and renovations for the Freeport Public Schools District, including a major classroom and science laboratory addition for the district’s high school as well as a new media center and classrooms for Atkinson Elementary School. The contract for comprehensive support services involved the design of a new 500 student magnet elementary school, the New Visions Elementary School of Discovery and Exploration.
Our design was influenced by the school’s curriculum, which is organized around thematic studies. Innovative design elements provide students with the means to showcase their work in a Museum-like setting. The building is organized around a central exhibition space. Corridors include display galleries and link pairs of classrooms, that can be combined by means of operable partitions to facilitate team teaching. IBI Group Gruzen Samton incorporated similar components into designs for small classroom additions for the Bayview and Archer Street Elementary Schools.
