New York, New York
In 2005 we worked with Kidville to create a revolutionary new retail environment to meet the demand for high end goods and services for the urban toddler-set. Its mission is to provide urban and suburban families with upscale city space to congregate, play, and learn. Our multi-function design was conceived to help consumers with urban tastes feel at home. The facility includes spaces for children and adults and features a salon, boutique, café, class spaces, special event areas, a theater for family concerts, and an indoor playground. We transformed a 20,000-sf garage into an open, airy retail environment reminiscent of a NYC loft space. Color is used boldly, with each floor highlighted in a different hue. The design relies heavily on strong geometric and architectural forms, which were then carried into other elements of the client’s efforts. The circle became an integral motif throughout the building and was used in floor patterns to form paths that would help children in way-finding and encourage play. Our design incorporated circles as cutouts in walls, providing children with windows to explore and view the space.
