KINGSBOROUGH COMMUNITY COLLEGE – CONFERENCE CENTER FOR MARINE STUDIES

208,000

Brooklyn, New York

IBI Group – Gruzen Samton worked closely with the City University of New York’s Department of Design and Construction to create a 208,000sf state-of-the-art conference center. A circular conference center volume dominates the structure and provides magnificent ocean views of Breezy Point and the New York Harbor entrance. The facility contains space for student services, recreational activities, lectures, and research related to marine and aquatic studies. The building functions as a hub of student and professional activity, completing a quadrangle formed by the existing library and arts and sciences buildings. The sensitive siting of the building defines sheltered campus courtyards as well as expansive seaside open spaces. The building’s 300-seat theater, three large lecture halls, aquarium, museum, and dining and meeting spaces offer multiple options for conference-related activities.  The Center for Marine Development and Research trains students in all aspects of fishing fleet management. The institution’s new marina educational facilities, located in the Marine and Academic Center, include an aquarium and museum.
