UNITED STATES – MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY – FACILITIES MASTER PLAN

890,000

Kings Point, New York

The Unites States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) hired IBI Group – Gruzen Samton to develop a facilities master plan that met the critical short and long-term capital enhancements of the 890,000 sf waterfront campus. The USMMA at the tip of Kings Point on the Long Island Sound. The location of the site provides the academy with breathtaking views as well as severe weather conditions. Our plan included comprehensive concept design studies and balancing the requirements of our client’s educational objectives with the positive physical attributes (and challenges) of the environment.

The physical improvements, outlined by the master plan, helped to support the academy’s mission. We were able to preserve the campus’ historic quadrangle, provide a complementary graduate school design that was integrated within the plan, and site each building in an efficient way on an exceptionally dense campus. We also addressed the USMMA’s parking shortage problem by implementing the solutions within the scope of work.
